INTERVIEW WITH MASUCCI

President OF THE International Propeller Clubs

Big preparations and wait for the third edition of the ‘Naples Shipping week’ which has had a huge success in the previous editions.

The event will be held from the 24th to the 29th of September and the expectations are enormous, therefore we ask a few questions to the president of the Propeller Umberto Masucci, spirit of the event with Carlo Silva of Click Utility.

D. In September the third edition of the Shipping Week will be held, which is the peculiarity of this year?

We keep the tradition but this year we focus on the youngster; the Shipping Week will be held at the end of September when schools and university are open so we will involve the adolescent in the tours at the port and the ships and in the attendance at the conferences.

The participation of the Korean Kitack Lim, the biggest representative of the worldwide shipping, number one of the IMO (maritime agency of the United Nations) will be the seal of warranty of the entire event.

An important newness is the presence of the authority of the harbor system, in relaunch, with the president Pietro Spirito after two exhibitions (2014 and 2016) when the port of Naples was in downfall. Also, for the conclusive dinner, which will be host at Castel Sant’Elmo, we have decided to reduce the number of attendees in order to facilitate more intense feelings in a historic location of our city”.

D. How has the event changed in the years?

The numbers of events and the relative participations have certainly increased. We have focused on the engagement of the local community in order to avoid that the event is only a meeting point for external delegates.

Again, in this way the third edition will involve schools, university and other entities of the city”

D. What are the reasons for its growth and success?

The main reason is the team work shown in the ‘Naples Shipping Week’ since the beginning: the Propeller which organizes the event with the Click Utility of Carlo Silva has worked with private and public members of the Neapolitan port maritime cluster and they have together contributed at the success and development of the initiative”.

D. In your opinion, what are the differences between the Neapolitan and Genoese shipping week?

I think that the two events are the images of two different clusters.

The Genoese is focused on the services; its shipping week has developed around the historic Dinner organized by the youngster maritime agents. The Neapolitan one is instead more variegated, with a strong nautical presence, symbolized by the President Giuseppe D’Amato, and the presence of all the members of the sector: all of them are represented by the Neapolitan Propeller which, with its 150 business partners, covers the whole maritime/harbor/logistic.”
