Federagenti: coalition against emergencies

Plastic islands, real hazard for Mediterranean

To create the system? To work together? Surely yes. Everyone agrees on that and everyone thinks that this is the right way to obtain great and concrete results in the economy industry.

Basically things go in a different way.

In the shipping world, for example, we see dangerous divisions that are not always positive. The Nautical association has split into Ucina on one side and Italian Nautical on the other side. Which is the result? A bigger weakness in the negotiation and capacity to do critical mass.

The fragmentation is deleterious for everyone – affirms Giovanni Gasparini, president of the Yacht section of Federagente – in occasion of the approval of the administrative orders on the nautical science, we will propose again the reunification of the two associations. We have already tried once but we will insist again because we believe that the unity is the answer, it is the right way in this sector. We will work hard to reach that even because we consider ourselves super partes”.

At the conference held at Porto Cervo to celebrate the association Federagenti, a current problem has been discussed about: plastic islands, which are a real hazard that makes our sea vulnerable, with concrete risks that threaten the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea.

Federagenti, led by Gian Enzo Duci, has decided to launch, from Sardinia’s sea, a proper coalition across the board to face and anticipate this emergency. Giovanni Gasparini has proposed to the main protagonists of the mediterranea courses, an agreement between the men and the sea, crew and captains in order to carry out a monitoring and warning activity on the confluence of plastic waste. Also the companies of cruising and sailing will do the same. Therefore everyone will be committed to conduct an awareness activity towards their passengers on a set of problems which is becoming an emergency.

So far many companies have taken part to this: Caronte & Tourist, Grimaldi, Silversea, Moby Tirrenia, MSC cruise, all aware of the gravity of the problem that concerns everyone and which leads them to protect and defend a treasure like the sea.

Shown below the numbers of plastic wastage:

Every year 280 million of metric ton of plastic are produced, that in 2050 will reach a number of 400.

10% of this number is thrown in the sea; there are 6000 billion plastic pieces which invade the planet, that is the equivalent of France’s surface and a million fishes have died after they had ingested plastic.

That is all.
