ITALIAN PORTS AND PRODUCTIVE SAFETY

NEW STRATEGIES FOR ITALIAN COMMERCIAL PORTS

New guidelines for the development of the economic system of commercial ports start from Campania, aiming at a new “Production Safety” strategy, guaranteeing and adapting port technical services to the market transformations of the last twenty years, to new technologies and industry needs.
“The role of the Maritime Authority – declared the Admiral – Inspector Giovanni Pettorino, General Commander of the Corps of Port Authorities – is constantly oriented to offer support to port operations and full implementation of measures based on the productive safety of ports”.
A clear message communicated to all maritime industry operators and compartments, starting a new phase of development, especially in Italian commercial ports. Already this summer the first results are to be seen in the ports of Salerno and Castellammare di Stabia.
In Salerno, thanks to the enlightening coordination of the Commander Giuseppe Menna, finally night operations in the port were activated, with the increase of incoming and outgoing commercial units, which led to an economic increase in the production activities of the commercial port and an increase in the number of pilots, with a customized tendering phase for the sector.
“The port of Salerno is due to grow – illustrates Commander Giuseppe Menna showing satisfaction – thanks above all to very valid entrepreneurs and operators such as Gallozzi, Grimaldi and Amoruso. Operators who believe in the development of this port, investing in the front line and working in synergy with the port technical services. Safety is, of course, the basis of this development and in synergy with the Commander Giuseppe Giovetti, with targeted meetings with pilots and boatmen, we have succeeded in creating a perfect system that has enabled the entry into the port of Salerno from 2017 at night, with the creation of a lighting system on the 250 meters of the overflow pier. Furthermore, we should not forget the growth recorded in the passenger transport sector. For the first time in the history of the port of Salerno, the first maritime connection with the Aeolian Islands was activated thanks to the shipping company Alicost and the young owner Fabio Gentile”.
And important results in terms of production safety are being achieved at the commercial port of Castellammare di Stabia, with the transformation of the substandard pier for Gigayacht called “Stabia Main Port”. A project launched in 2013, which has been strengthened in the last two years thanks to the synergy between the Port Authority with the Commander Guglielmo Cassone, the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea with the President Pietro Spirito, Federpiloti and Angopi , the Porto Antico company Stabia and the maritime agency Luise Group and above all MIT, Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, thanks to the General Directorate for the supervision of Port Authorities, Infrastructures and Transports , led by Enrico Pujia and today by Mauro Coletta, who analyzed in-depth the situation, studied the maritime compartment’s relationship from a security point of view and monitored the results achieved by sector operators, with ISTAT statistical data, from zero to two hundred calls in just two years.
